In Salt Lake County, after the ceremony the license must be returned to the Clerk's office so it can be recorded. Utah law gives the officiant 30 days from the day of the ceremony to return the license to the county clerk that issued it, together with a certificate of marriage naming two or more witnesses. Failing to return the license is an infraction under Utah law. The Clerk files and records the license and certificate and transmits a transcript to the state registrar.
