Once you are married, you must return your marriage license to our Norwalk office to be recorded. We do NOT automatically send you a copy of your marriage certificate. Now that you have your marriage license, which is valid for 90 days, you and your future spouse may be married by your choice of one of the following persons qualified to perform marriage ceremonies: A priest, minister or rabbi of any religious denomination who is 18 years of age or older / An active or retired Judge, Commissioner, or Assistant Commissioner of a court in this State / A City Clerk, while that person holds office / A Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages / A member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors / A person who holds or formerly held an elected office of a city or county.

You do not need to be a California resident to marry in California. Marriage by proxy is NOT allowed in California. Blood tests are NOT required to obtain a marriage license in California. Both parties must appear in person and bring valid picture identification to the County Clerk's Office to apply for a marriage license in California. Marriage licenses are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. If you do not get married within 90 days, the license will no longer be valid. You must purchase a new license.
