Mecklenburg County exact answer

How much is a marriage license in Mecklenburg County?

This answer belongs to the issuing office and task named above. It does not substitute a statewide summary or infer a rule the office does not publish.

Direct answer

The published license fee in Mecklenburg County is $60.00.

Marriage license fee
$60

North Carolina fixes this fee statewide rather than county by county. N.C.G.S. § 161-10(a) requires every register of deeds to collect fees "which shall be uniform throughout the State", and § 161-10(a)(2) sets sixty dollars for issuing a marriage license — so the amount is not a Mecklenburg-specific charge, and the county's own schedule matches it.

Published by the Register of Deeds itself, on its Uniform Fee Schedule under the heading Marriage Licenses. A certified copy of the marriage license afterwards is $10.

  • N.C.G.S. § 161-10 - Uniform fees of registers of deedsNorth Carolina General Assembly - checked July 30, 2026

"§ 161-10. Uniform fees of registers of deeds. (a) Except as otherwise provided in this Article, all fees collected under this section shall be deposited into the county general fund. While performing the duties of the office, the register of deeds shall collect the following fees which shall be uniform throughout the State: ... (2) Marriage Licenses. - For issuing a license sixty dollars ($60.00); for issuing a delayed certificate with one certified copy twenty dollars ($20.00); and for a proceeding for correction of an application, license or certificate, with one certified copy ten dollars ($10.00). ... (8) Certified Copies of Birth and Death Certificates and Marriage Licenses. - For furnishing a certified copy of a death or birth certificate or marriage license ten dollars ($10.00)." Recorded because North Carolina fixes the marriage license fee statewide by statute; it corroborates the $60 the Mecklenburg Register of Deeds publishes on its own Uniform Fee Schedule. Note: § 161-11.3 is the Automation Enhancement and Preservation Fund and does not set the license fee.
